Could It Really Represent Our Future ?
Welcome to Night City, California. The year is 2077, and you've just set foot in the one and only City of Dreams. The city where everyone gets a chance at life, where humanity has reached its peak, enhanced by cybernetic upgrades.
Perhaps that is what we hope to hear 52 years from now, but will it be the case?
False advertisement will be the death of society, because in the case of Night City, it is nowhere near the so-called "city of dreams." It is a city based on crushed dreams where politicians are mindlessly controlled by power-hungry corporations, leaving the middle and lower classes in severe depression. You either make it or you don't, and if you don't ? You might as well have never existed. No happy endings in Night City.
Now obviously, this is all just pure fiction. There is no such thing as Night City. What is interesting about it is the story it tells. Isn't the world unfair? Corporations rule the world from the shadows, and there's no denying it. Who has the biggest impact on the economy? Corporations. Biggest impact on politics? Corporations. A lot of the time, their power far exceeds that of nations themselves. How many countries are in reality broken by the impacts of corporations? We don't know; yet, we probably live in one. Corporations take advantage of war too, to make profits. How many of your favorite companies do you think have actively participated in recent conflicts?
Take Elon Musk. Word is he is developing biochips we can implant into our brains and connect to our devices. Prosthetics, biochips... what's next?
The truth is, we are very close to living in Cyberpunk 2077's world. We rely on AI, we're starting to implant chips directly into our bodies, bionic implants are becoming more common, and a society controlled by corporations seems increasingly plausible. We can only watch what will happen to our future.
