For many gaming Enthusiasts, Black: Myth Wukong was their personal Game Of Year, and they knew it was 100% going to be a nominee, however many were surprised when Balatro, Astro Bot, Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth were also contenders.
For Balatro, many thought it wasn't worthy, same for Astro-Bot.
As for Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree, people didn't find it right that it Was a contender, considering it wasn't a game in itself and just an extension to the 2022 Game Of The year.
As for Final Fantasy, it just wasn't fair for most, because the original game came out in 1997,and didn't feel like a 2024 game.
Many Were shocked when the Winner was announced, being Astro-Bot.
Many thought Black Myth: Wukong was more deserving of the win.
Many were also in disagreement when Balatro won more awards then Black Myth: Wukong with Balatro winning:
Best debut Indie Game
Best independent Game
Best Mobile Game
And Black Myth: Wukong winning:
Player's Voice Award
Best Action Game
As For Astro Bot, some have stated that it ressembles Astro's Play-Room, which is a game that comes pre-installed with the Playstation 5, where you incarn the same character. The main difference between these two titles is the way they implement Playstation 5's haptic feedback, a way to implement immersive fibrations into the controller.
Opinions are diverse, some say Astro-Bot deserved the awards, others say it doesn't.
A popular opinion states Black Myth: Wukong was robbed and that the Game Awards Should NOT allow Remakes Or DLCs(Downloadable extra contents) to win GAME OF THE YEAR
